Adult continuing education and health

Most of us know that we learn all life and that as soon as we admit this, we most probably are aware that we know very little out of this knowledge.

Having said this, what must be admitted is the fact that the adult continuing education can be and it is very practical. Some would argue about this, but it is a fact that seniors have several advantages over children:

* Better memory

* Experience

* Fewer distractions

The details of the three facts about the advantages of adults’ learning are explained below:

Better memory

There are certain opinions by the doctors who thought that you couldn’t grow new brain cells as you age. Consequently, as old brain cells died you were supposed to become more stupid. Luckily, the science has evolved and now we know that the more adult is continuing the education, the more new brain cells one gets. In this respect, you can even delay certain illness or Alzheimer’s disease by keeping your brain active.

Then you hear it all the time – old people keep forgetting things!

This is also true, because what you remember most are the startling, new, shocking things, not the old ones. To the old people it’s a case of “been there, done that” – nothing is new or shocking.

It is also true that you often have to learn boring things in life, and this is where you have an advantage as an adult.

Seniors beat the kids in the tests of memorizing meaningless words, which is another of the advantages that make adults continue education more exciting, that on the other side cuts kid’s advantage over your memory.

Experience

It is a fact – one learns from the known to the unknown, this is why it’s logical that the more experience you have, the more you can think. I am 43 years old now and I can say that my adult continuing education gets easier because there are always relevant things in my experience that I can reconnect.

Distractions

With the world getting busier and more connected, a lot of distractions are on our way.

The benefits with the distractions you experience are really not as obsessive as your teenage interests. For example, it is for sure that you aren’t going to have to choose between going out on a date and doing some study, as you might have to choose between having a nap and study. In any case this can be resolved, as you are well aware of the benefits the education will bring and in this sense making you the choice you need to make in order to proceed with what you are studying.

There is one more advantages that applies to adults’ studying and it applies to exams. Most of adults were sick with nerves during the school exams, life-career depended on the performance. But, now you know – it would be nice to pass, but on the other side your experience tells you that you can also survive failure, and land on your feet again…so less nerves wasted.

If children do not have wealthy or helpful parents they can hardly afford resources that you as an adult can afford.

Today, there are ways to become a lightning “calculator” and ways to develop a super memory, so in this sense, if you want to learn a language you can probably even afford to get a “super learning” course that teaches you the language in only fifteen hours.

Why do adults continuing education?

We have given the advantages of adults’ continuing learning, but why in fact, for healthy reasons, should adults bother with continuing education?

* Brain deterioration prevention

The effect of study on getting new brain cells is a good reason for itself. This explains the first point.

* New job

In our times you can realistically expect to keep one job for a short time, so you will need to get training for your next job.

* Self-employment

You can’t be get fired if you are self-employed. You can go broke, but this is why it is good to develop your home business part-time, until it earns you twice as much as your job. Then, if you loose your job you really would not care.

When this happens, you would need to worry about adult continuing education, to keep learning even more.

When you have your own business, you will have to learn book-keeping, you will have to employ people, you will need to learn the laws that apply, you will have to learn the skills for your niche market and all the other things related to your business. But this is one of the reasons why you started the self-employment of the first place, didn’t you?

Ways of learning

In the last decades of the XX century it was the correspondence school, libraries and evening schools. But, in our days  I must admit it is much easier! With the Internet resources, you can get a lot of free or paid e-books, enroll to online courses or studies all tailored for the variety of tastes.

It is not at all that complicated, as long as you are determined and resolute in your intentions to succeed in your endeavors.
